Creating an account#
An account is needed to apply to a role and to save one. Reading the board and the postings needs nothing. Create one at careers.globalfurry.tv/register, or press Apply on any role and the site will offer you the sign up on the way through.
note
Every role currently listed is voluntary and unpaid. No salary, no stipend, no expenses. This is worth reading before you sign up instead of after.
What the form asks for#
| Field | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Username | How you sign in. Letters, numbers, and . _ -, between 3 and 32 characters. |
| Display name | What the team sees beside your applications. |
| Used to sign in and to prefill an application form. Nothing is ever sent to it. | |
| Password | At least 10 characters. Length is what makes a password strong, so a short phrase beats a short scramble. |
A phone number is optional and is not asked for here. You can add one later in your account settings. It is used only if a role's application form asks for one, so that we can fill it in for you.
What happens straight after#
The account is active immediately. There is no approval wait, no queue, and no email verification step, because there is no email involved at all.
Then the site shows you ten account recovery codes, once. Each one works once, and one of them plus nothing else sets a new password on your account.
warning
This is the only time those codes are shown. They cannot be recovered afterwards, only replaced. Copy them or download the file, and keep them somewhere only you can reach.
The screen offers Copy and Download, and asks you to tick "I have saved these somewhere safe" before it lets you carry on. The downloaded file is plain text with the date on it.
There is no email on this site, which means there is no "email me a reset link". Those codes are the way back in. Recovery codes explains both sets in full.
If the codes did not appear#
Occasionally the account is created and the codes are not. The site says so, in those words, and the fix is to generate a set now from Sign in and security in your account. An account with no recovery codes is an account nobody can get you back into on your own.
What the account gives you#
- Applying, which is the main one.
- Saving roles, kept on your saved roles page.
- A record of every application and what happened to it, on My applications.
- A place for the team to reach you, which is Outstanding tasks. There is no email, so that page is where a question or an invitation lands.
- Reporting a translation problem on any posting, which needs an account so somebody can come back to you about it.
What it does not do#
- It sends you nothing by email, ever.
- It does not hold your application answers. Those go to Google Forms and stay with Google.
- It accepts no file uploads. The one exception is an optional profile picture, which is resized in your browser before it is sent.
Next#
- Signing in, and the two options on that page that are worth understanding before you tick them.
- Recovery codes, if you want to know what the second set is for.
