Reporting a problem#
Every posting carries Report a translation problem near its foot, beside the share and back links. It is quiet on purpose. Nothing pops up, and nothing asks you whether the translation was any good.
The same control appears wherever else translated wording is shown at length, and on the interface itself. A bad label in the navigation is worth reporting too. You should not have to work out that it is an interface string and not part of a posting.
What it asks#
- Which version has the problem. It starts on the language you are reading.
- Which part. It starts on the whole posting. Narrow it to the title, the summary, the description, what you would do, what we need from you, nice to have, or the location.
- What is wrong. A sentence or two. This one is needed.
- A better wording, if you have one. Optional, and nobody expects it.
Write in whichever language you prefer#
You may write the report in either language. You are not pushed into the language you are reporting about, which is often the one you read least well.
A suggestion is never applied on its own#
The form says so, and it is worth repeating here:
Optional. An admin reads it before anything changes.
Your wording does not appear on the site when you press send. A person reads it first, every time.
You need an account#
Reporting needs you to be signed in, so the team can come back to you about it.
If you are signed out, the control opens the same sign in prompt as Apply, and finishes the report when you return. Nothing you typed is lost.
What happens after you send it#
Thank you. A member of the team will look at this.
No date is promised, because promising one would be inventing it.
Every report is answered, including one that is turned down. An admin has to write a note when they close a report, whatever they decided. Closing it silently would teach you not to bother next time.
Seeing what you reported#
Your reports are listed on your account settings page, under Translation problems you reported. Each one shows when you filed it and where it has got to:
- Waiting to be read
- Being worked on
- Left as it is
- Fixed
When one is dealt with, what the team decided appears beside it.
It is not a task#
A report never appears on your outstanding tasks page, and never adds to the count in the header.
That page is for things the team needs from you. A report goes the other way. If an admin needs to ask you a follow up question, they raise an ordinary question, and that does land on the tasks page.
