Using the Telegram bot#
Careers@GFTV has a Telegram bot at @careersgftv_bot. Link it to your account and it tells you when something happens, and signs you in faster.
It is optional. Everything it sends you is on the portal as well, so an account with no Telegram linked misses nothing at all.
What it can do#
- Sign you in. A six digit code at the second step, or a link you tap once. See Signing in from Telegram.
- Tell you when you are invited to a role, with a button to read the posting and a button to decline. See Job invitations.
- Tell you when the team asks you something, and when one of your applications moves. See Notifications.
- Answer questions about your account. Your open invitations, how many things are waiting for you, and where each application stands.
- List the newest openings, which needs no account and no link.
What it cannot do#
- Apply for a role. Applying is a Google Form, and it opens in a browser. The bot can send you the link to the posting and no further.
- Show you a whole posting. It sends the title and a button. Postings are long, and a chat window is the wrong shape for one.
- Start the linking itself. Send it
/linkand it tells you where the button is. It has no way to know which portal account is yours. A bot that accepted a username here could be talked into linking somebody else's account. - Do anything with a staff account. Job posters and admins sign in on the site. The bot knows about applicant accounts only.
- Stop sending you sign in codes. Four kinds of notification can be switched off and that one cannot. A code only ever goes out when somebody is signing in to your account.
It never asks you for anything secret#
The bot will never ask you for your password, for a recovery code, or for a backup code. Nothing it sends you needs any of them typed back into the chat.
If a message in Telegram asks you for one, it is not us.
What is in this guide#
- Linking your account, from the portal and from the bot.
- Command reference: all eleven, and what each returns.
- Signing in from Telegram: the code and the one tap link.
- Notifications: the four kinds and their switches.
- Job invitations, and how to answer one.
- Unlinking, and what it does to your sign in.
- Troubleshooting, when nothing arrives.
Two languages#
The bot answers in English and 华文. Once your account is linked it uses the language set on your account, which is the one you chose on the portal.
Before there is a link it follows the language your Telegram app is set to.
