Becoming a helper#
A translation helper is somebody who has agreed to do the work, and has been given the tools for it. Reporting a problem needs no role at all. This is the other half.
It is an ordinary account#
A helper is an ordinary applicant account that an admin has granted the role to. You are a language speaker and not a member of staff.
You do not need a gftv.asia account, and you do not become a job poster or an admin. If you already have an applicant account, that is the account that gets the role.
Granted one language at a time#
The role is per language. Somebody who reads 华文 is not thereby approving Malay or Tamil.
As soon as the site publishes a third language, that distinction is the whole point of it. A single yes or no would have let one helper edit languages they have never read.
Granting is recorded, with a reason#
An admin has to write down why when they grant the role. That note stays on the record.
It is not a hurdle. An admin reviewing the list a year later needs to know why each person is on it, and by then nobody remembers the conversation.
How to ask#
Ask in the GFTV Telegram group, or wherever you normally reach the team. Say which language, and say something about how you use it.
There is no application form and no queue. The area itself says the same thing if you open it before you have the role:
This area is for translation helpers. An admin grants the role one language at a time. It lets you write and improve that language across the whole site.
Where the work happens#
Once you have the role, Translating appears in your account area, at careers.globalfurry.tv/account/translations.
That page lists what is still waiting in your language, and it is where you write. See What a helper can do.
If the area disappears#
Helping with translations has been switched off for the moment. Your role is unchanged and the area comes back when it does.
That is a switch an admin turns while something is fixed. Nothing has been taken away from you.
